INTERMENT with MILITARY HONORS: Assumption Catholic Cemetery ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Allan Kostrzewski, 75, of Verndale, MN, whose youth was spent in Florian, MN, died on Friday, July 24, 2026, in St. Cloud (MN) Hospital, after five weeks of health problems precipitated by blood clots and strokes. Allan Evald was born on April 22, 1951, in Drayton, ND, to Evald and Dolores (Kurowski) Kostrzewski. Raised on the family farm near Florian alongside his seven siblings, Allan attended school in Stephen, MN, before leaving for junior seminary in Carthage, MO, in the 8th grade. He discerned that he was not called to the priesthood, though the importance of faith remained strong for the rest of his days. He returned to Minnesota, graduating from Moorhead State with a degree in Business, with his eye on implementing it in the world of agriculture. It was there he also found his eye on a young lady, Marcia Racette. The two were united in marriage on November 10, 1973, making their home in Ada, MN, where Allan worked for Farm Credit. A later job took him to Perham, MN where he worked in Agribusiness and, more importantly he discovered, as the hired operator of a potato farm. When a potato farm near Verndale came up for sale in 1980, Allan and Marcia packed up their family and moved east. It was a good fit. Here, Allan raised his kids doing what he loved: teaching them the value of discipline and how to earn (and also keep) a dollar; how to work “with” people and not “against” them; and be the role model he always was, showing them by his actions what was good, alongside giving them solid advice. He was a considerate husband and Marcia's best friend. A more devoted man you couldn't find, and most people considered him their best friend, too: a testament to Allan's steadfastness. In the early 2000s, in addition to his well-run potato farm, Allan opened his own appraisal business. He named it after himself, as his good name was what he valued most behind God and family. In later years Allan drove hours and hours to watch his two children's, then his two grandchildren's, activities, and he always seemed to have energy to spare. He maintained strong ties to his family and all those folks in God's own Polish country of Florian. Though he is gone too soon, his soul has gone home to God, and what was mortal is being laid to rest next to his forebears in the good earth that first taught him to love the land. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marcia; children, Paul Kostrzewski and Amy Geerdes; grandchildren, Jayden and Brooke Geerdes; siblings, Mary (Lynn) Christianson, Deborah (Jim) Stengrim, Carol Riley, Randal Kostrzewski, Janel Kresl, and Janet (Paul) Nysetvold; sister-in-law, Diana Kostrzewski; and many, many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gary Kostrzewski; and brother-in-law, Andrew Riley.
