Doris Lohse

The funeral service for Doris "Gerry" Lohse will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Deer Creek with Pastor Don Wagner officiating. A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena on Monday, October 30, 2017. Visitation will continue at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Gerry, 88, passed away with family by her side on October 27, 2017 at the Elder's Home in New York Mills. Gerry was born on June 13, 1929 the daughter of Thomas and Doris (Orton) Greear in Volin, SD. She was baptized and confirmed in the Volin Lutheran Church Parish. She graduated from Volin High School in 1947 and Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, MN in 1949. After graduating she was employed at Rapinwax Paper Company in Minneapolis, MN. There she met her future husband, Laurel Lohse. They were united in marriage on March 24th, 1950 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. They lived in Minneapolis and New Brighton, raising their family of four children. She was a Sunday School teacher and a Cub Scout Den Mother. Once her children were grown, she went back to work in the Credit Department at Montgomery Ward. She also worked in the office at Deer Creek Fabricating. After moving to the Deer Creek area Gerry and Laurel started their business in 1972. After retiring, they moved to the Leader area. While in the Leader area, she was a member of the Leader Lions Club. Gerry was an avid reader and enjoyed word games and puzzles. She is preceded in death by her husband, Laurel; parents, Thomas and Doris and brothers, Thomas and Preston. Gerry will always be remembered by her children, Deborah Bell of Duluth, Dennis of Fontana, CA, David (Shannon) of Charles City, IA, and Brian (Becky) of Little Falls; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, along with a host of family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicole Bell, Natalie (Bell) Fogal, Jon Lohse, Jenna Lohse, Andrew Lohse, and Trista Lohse. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Lohse, Justin Lohse, Charles M. Bell II, Jeffrey Lohse, James Lohse, and Trae Lohse. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Deer Creek , MN.
