The funeral service celebrating the life of Duane Peterson, will be held at 2:00p.m on Tuesday, September 5, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend, with Pastor Allan Mortenson presiding. Duane Benjamin Peterson was born to Walfred and Hilda (Nelson) Peterson on May 13, 1937. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Eagle Bend Public School. Duane spent a few years working ships on the Great Lakes and did a short stint in the US Army. While on leave, he met Linda Schoneman; they were married August 1962. They lived in Minneapolis for a number of years, eventually moving back to take over the family farm in 1967 after having son, Steven. Daughter Jodi was born in 1968. Duane converted the farm to a pork operation and raised hogs farrow to finish. He was a dedicated farmer and the farm became a century farm in the late 90’s. Over the years, Duane was an avid hunter and took many trips to Canada for moose hunting and fishing. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing locally and shot many a buck and caught lots of elusive walleye. He enjoyed restoring old John Deere tractors, his favorite being a model G that placed in many local tractor pulls. He was an active participant in the annual Rose City Threshing Festival and England Prairie Pioneer Days, and enjoyed going to other farm festivals as well. He married Glenda Kohnen in 2020. Preceding Duane in death are his parents; wife of 55 years, Linda; brother, Roger; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by Steve and Paige Peterson of Sharpsburg, GA; Jodi and Rick Bruns of Le Sueur, MN; grandchildren Sean (Haley) Bruns, Aubin Bruns, Nate and Nicholas Peterson; sister-in-law Carrol Peterson; several nieces, nephews and countless friends. Burial will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Eagle Bend, MN. Special thank you to Lakewood Health and Douglas County Hospice Services and to all of the staff at St. Williams Living Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Duane’s name are preferred to Hilltop Regional Kitchen or Faith Lutheran Church of Eagle Bend.
