Eleanor Salge

The funeral service for Eleanor R. Salge of Wadena will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Stephen Meltzer presiding. Friends may call on Tuesday, at the church from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Eleanor passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2013, surrounded by her loving children, at Lakewood Health Care Center Hospice in Staples, MN. She was 84 years old. Eleanor Rose Schmidt Salge was born on June 6, 1928, to William and Gertrude (Klatt) Schmidt in Hillside, Illinois. She grew up and attended school in Blue Earth, MN. She married the love of her life, Frank Salge on June 13, 1953, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. They spent their married life in Blue Earth, Sauk Centre, and Brooten before moving to Wadena where they co-owned and operated the Boondocks Café. At home she dedicated her time to being a wonderful wife, mom and grandma who liked to cook, bake, and keep her hands busy with crocheting and sewing. She collected salt & pepper shakers and cookbooks. She enjoyed reading the Bible and caring for her precious grandchildren. Eleanor will always be remembered as a very loving mom, grandma, and best friend, who always made time for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Gertrude; and husband Frank on April 1, 1998. She is survived by her son Dale (Michele) Salge; daughters Dianne Salge and Donna Jean (Glen) Wood all of Wadena; grandchildren Matthew Salge (Sharaea Bartlett) , Andrew Wood, Brittany (Nathan) Lahman, Dustin Syverson, Emily Wood, Scott Syverson (Kelsi Crawford), Jessica Salge (Lukas Krüger), Jacob Salge and MacKenzie Salge; brother Pastor Don W. Schmidt of Nashville, TN; her dedicated Boondocks family and friends; along with several special nieces, nephews and cousins. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her Boondocks family & friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Salge, Andrew Wood, Dustin Syverson, Scott Syverson, Jacob Salge, Nathan Lahman, Scott Tullis and Mike Smith. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
