The memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Ella Olston of rural Parkers Prairie will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bertha with Fr. Mitchell Bechtold as celebrant. Ella was born the oldest of eight children to Peter and Viola (Clovis) Laub on August 5, 1934 in Okarche, OK. Ella graduated from high school in 1952. She lived in Oklahoma until the family moved to Buena Vista, CO. After moving to Colorado, Ella worked as a waitress and a cook. Buena Vista is where Ella met John, whom she married in May of 1962 in Taos, NM. Ella and John made their home on Trout Creek, just outside of Buena Vista, and started their family. In 1977 Ella and John moved to rural Parkers Prairie, MN. On the farm, Ella stayed busy helping John with chores, cooking, canning, raising their five children, and helping with her grandchildren. Ella was a member of Christian Mothers and the American Legion Auxiliary in Bertha. Preceeding Ella in death were her husband John (2-3-2022); parents, Peter and Viola; son, Jessie Olston; daughter, Carol Olston and siblings: Paul, Joe, Bob, Don and Hellen “Susie”. Forever remembering Ella will be her children: Donna Olston, Vicky Olston-Smith (Herb), John Olston (Julie) and Debby Ulve (Casey); grandchildren: Courtney (Adam), Derek, Nicolas, Tyler, June, James (Frank), Jessa, John and Luke; great grandchildren: Dakkota, Skyler, Xander and Abel; and siblings, Barbara (Bill) James and Betty (Fred) Kuhn. We will all remember Ella’s quick wit, the beautiful doilies she loved to make, her wonderful baked goods, and her straightforward advice (whether you wanted it or not). Most importantly we will remember her love for John, her children, and grandchildren. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Bertha, MN.
