Erma Grewe

Funeral services for Erma Virginia Grewe of Bertha were held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bertha with Reverend Blake Rickbeil presiding. Erma passed away peacefully at the age of 82 years on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Touch of Home care home in Eagle Bend. Erma was born on July 7, 1926 to William and Louise (Rudloff) Mottaz at their home in Stowe Prairie Township, Todd County. She graduated from high school and on November 24, 1945, she was united in marriage with Delbert Arnold Grewe at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wadena. Together they operated their farm and raised their children just outside Bertha. Erma was active in her church and community as a cook and as a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and the Neighborhood Homemakers Club. After Delbert passed away on October 24, 1976, she cooked at school for several years and at Kapps Café for their smorgasbords. She enjoyed riding with Cindy Goepferd and Mary Robben to Bertha-Hewitt High School sporting events. The teams looked forward to her fresh baked cookies after the games. She also enjoyed quilting with the church ladies, gardening, and watching the Minnesota Twins. In June of 2008, she moved into Touch of Home and the lives of Pam and Carolyn in Eagle Bend where she received excellent loving care until her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband Delbert; parents William and Louise; brother Ray Mottaz and sister Velva McAllister. She is survived by her sons Ordell (Deb) of Morris and Lance (Laura) of Hewitt; daughters Janell (Walter) Packard of Bertha and Jolayne (Lloyd) Elgin of Lake City; grandchildren Illa (Arnie) of Iowa, Russ of Bertha, Neil (Jennie) of Wisconsin, Mata (Bryon) of Breckinridge, Tabitha (Matt) of Bloomington, Todd of Morris, Marie (Chad) of Alexandria, Jacob (Jenna) of Fargo, Zane (Sarah) of Bertha, Aaron (Megan) of Fargo, Daisy (Gregg) of Alexandria, Nickolas of Hewitt and Zachary of Hewitt; 6 grandchildren; brothers-in-law Howard (MaryAnn) Hegarty of Arizona and Ralph Knudson of Wadena; and sisters-in-law Janet (Dave) Finley of Wadena, Iris (Ray) Erickson of Wadena and Adela Haurik of New York. Honorary Pallbearers were granddaughters Illa Roth, Mata Packard, Tabitha Herbranson, Marie Grewe and DaisyPackard. Pallbearers were grandsons Russ Packard, Neil Elgin, Todd Grewe, Aaron Elgin, Jacob Elgin, Zane Packard, Nickolas Grewe and Zachary Grewe. Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Bartlett Township.
