The funeral service for Eva Freyholtz of Hewitt will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hewitt, with Pastor Gerold Goetz presiding. Eva was born to Adam and Christeena (Schimpf) Kailer on December 11, 1920, in Howard Lake, MN. She grew up with four sisters and two brothers. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1941, the same year she met the love of her life, Harold Freyholtz, Sr. Unfortunately, WWII got in the way. After four years and a lot of love letters, they were married on April 24, 1946. Eva and Harold lived on a farm outside of Fairfax and moved in 1953 to Hewitt, where they bought their own farm. From1967 until 1979 they owned and operated the Bertha Café. They built their home in Bertha which also accommodated a Child Care setting. Eva loved having visitors, and coffee was always served with a table of goodies. Harold passed away in 1994. Eva moved to the Bertha Apartments in 1998 and later to the Long Prairie Nursing Home. Eva was a talented baker and cook, but real joy was found when babysitting children, especially family. She was a member of the Senior Citizens, American Legion Auxiliary and Dorcas Society. Preceding Eva in death were her husband, Harold; parents, Adam and Christeena Kailer; son Robert Freyholtz; brothers Adam and Fred Kailer; sisters: Lena Bender, Katherine Day, Christeena Kailer, Caroline Dettmann; sister-in-law, June Kailer; sons-in-law, Virgil Tobeck and Phillip Skolte; great grandson, Thomas Christensen and great granddaughter Madison Rushmeyer. Memories of Eva will remain with her children: Joyce Skolte of Clarissa, Harold (Peggy) Freyholtz, Jr of Hewitt, and Ann (Paul) Wachlin of Wadena; daughter-in-law, Patricia (Joseph) Thunstrom of Wadena; grandchildren, Shelley Johnson, Kelly Dykhoff, Kari (Dennis) Summers, Andrew (Ruth) Freyholtz, Laura (Tim) Hernandez, Adam (Ashley) Freyholtz, Gretta (Brandon) Christensen, Brenda (Blake) Rickbeil, Malinda (Kevin) Christensen, Paula Wachlin, Bobby (Adrian) Freyholtz, Shannon (Adam) Erickson and Amber (Tony) Seals; step-grandchildren, Kristen Ziegler, Melanie(Stacy) Brose, Stacey (Rod) Rushmeyer, Kate (Greg) Ziegler and Michael (Tiffany) Deering; 66 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Freyholtz, Adam Freyholtz, Bobby Freyholtz, Brandon Dykhoff, Rick Rettig and Terry Rettig. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Hewitt, MN.
