Hazel Wiese

Funeral services for Hazel Wiese of rural Verndale will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the Balsamlund Lutheran Church in rural Verndale, with Pastors Rachel L.O. Stout and Ken Losch officiating. On Tuesday, January 6, 2015, Hazel passed away peacefully at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples, MN, at the age of 85. Hazel Walberta (Chilberg) Wiese was born on January 17th, 1929 to Andrew Nicholas (Claus) and Mary Louise (Lindblom) Chilberg in Bartlett Township, in Todd County. She graduated in 1947 from Staples High School. Walter William Wiese and Hazel were joined in marriage on April 7th, 1948 at Balsamlund Lutheran Church in rural Aldrich. They met at the Bertha Dance Pavilion April 29th, 1945. They celebrated 66 wonderful years together. Their first home was a half a mile north of Balsamlund Lutheran Church on the Claus / Chilberg farm. They lived there for five and a half years before moving to their present home in 1953, in rural Verndale, MN. She was a Home Health Aide, helped Walt with chores and raised 9 children. She loved working in her garden and canning many delicious fruits and vegetables. She was a wonderful seam-stress hand stitching many quilts for her children and grandchildren and many went to missions. She was involved in every part of her children’s lives including the church Youth Group and 4-H. She was a member of the Balsamlund Ladies Group and a Sunday school teacher. She had a beautiful voice and shared her singing talent many times. She loved spending time with family and friends and holding little babies. She is survived by her husband Walter Sr.; one brother Herman Chilberg of Clarissa; sisters Marion Fuller of Wadena, and Inez Olson of Staples; brother Herman (Kathy) Wiese of Verndale; sister-in-law Betty Wiese of Verndale; daughters Karen Treangen of Hewitt, Leona (Neal) Bowman of Bertha, Susan Riedel of Battle Lake; and sons Wally (Kathy) Wiese of Verndale, Bruce (Carol) Wiese of Nisswa, Mark (Cathy) Wiese of Verndale and Walter Jr. (Cindy) Wiese of Verndale; along with many grandchildren & great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Mary; daughter Tammy; son Brian; son in law Ricky Riedel; sisters Edna, Alice, Ruth, Myrtle, Mildred; brother-in-law Elmer Wiese; and sister-in-law Edna Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers are all of Hazel’s grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Chad Zimmerman, Ryan Bowman, Joey Wiese, Anthony Wiese, Justin Wiese, Derek Wiese. Burial will be in Balsamlund Lutheran Church in rural Verndale, MN.
