Funeral services for Dave Bendix of Compton Township will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Deer Creek with Pastor Don Wagner presiding. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a time of prayers and sharing at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. David was born on December 11, 1940 in Wadena, MN to Harold and Agnes (Lorine) Bendix. He was baptized on March 27, 1941 in Rose City, and confirmed in 1954 at the Compton Church in rural Deer Creek. David attended the Dist. 94 Rural School in Compton Township in his younger years. In 1958, David graduated from Wadena High School with many of his high school days spent farming. In 1970, David met Marie Hinders in downtown Wadena one evening when cruising the strip. Marie’s yellow Camaro caught his eye. On April 29, 1972, they were united in marriage in Sebeka, MN. David and Marie milked cows and grew corn, soybeans, oats and alfalfa while raising their three daughters–instilling on them his strong work ethic. He took great pride in their farm and the quality of milk and crops that were produced. In 2005, they sold their dairy cattle, and he continued to crop farm. In 2024 and 2025, David mentored his grandson Simon to assume operation of the farm– creating a lasting legacy of his beloved Bendix Century Farm. David harvested a large buck nearly every year and enjoyed sitting in his deer stand “Rickety”. He was very resourceful in his farming and had the ability to fix almost anything. Over the years, his favorite pastimes included daily coffee at the Boondocks with his friends, fishing, attending his grandchildren’s events, trips to Rollag, playing Rummikub with Marie, driving his Gator and walking his farm. David was created by God to be a caretaker of the land and did just that until his final day on earth. David was an active member of the Deer Creek Lions and past board member of the Northern Co-op, Leaf River Ag, Compton Township, Farm Bureau and Messiah Lutheran Church. He will be greatly missed for his love of farming, loud sighs and yawns, countless injuries, memorable sayings and ability to nap almost anywhere. Surviving David are his wife of 53 years, Marie; children: Christy (Bob) Brinkman, Julia (David) Snyder and Melody (Keith) Jahnke; grandchildren: Bel, Simon, Ryan, Charli, Emma, Gabriel and Gavin; siblings: Harris (Shirley) Bendix and Sandra Maloney; brother-in-law: Charlie (Sandra) Hinders. He is preceded in death by son: Daniel Bendix; parents: Harold and Agnes Bendix; brothers-in-law: Louis (Annie) Hinders, Robert Hinders, Richard Hinders and Jim Maloney.
