Kenneth Nelson

Kenneth Nelson, age 83 of Eagle Bend, MN passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. Kenneth Charles Nelson was born on October 1, 1922 to Charles "Allie" and Anna Nelson at their home in Wykeham Township, rural Eagle Bend. He attended country schools and high school until he was needed full time to work on his parents farm. On October 27, 1944, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Hope Johnson in Eagle Bend. In 1948, they took over Dorothy's parents farm south of Eagle Bend. Ken spent his lifetime living in the Eagle Bend area. He operated the farm and worked as a carpenter and handyman. Described as a "professional board member", he was a member of the Carter School District Board, the Faith Lutheran Church Board and the Wykeham Township Board, serving as it's clerk for over 44 years. He was also active on various Senior Citizens activities. Ken enjoyed working with his hands, working as a carpenter and helping out his family. He enjoyed deer hunting and went ice fishing when he was younger. He followed his children and grandchildren's activities closely, attending basketball and baseball games. He especially enjoyed taking Dorothy to her grandson's go-cart and stock car races. Spending time with his friends was also very important to him. He would have coffee with everyone. He was a regular at Ray's shop for coffee in the mornings, had lunch and coffee at the senior's center in Eagle Bend or one of the restaurants in town, and would have dinner and coffee with his family in the evenings. Ken was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1993: son Ronald in 1966; parents Allie and Anna Nelson; brother Darrel Nelson and sister Irene Nelson. He is survived by son Richard (Susan) of Eagle Bend; daughters Sharon (Ardeen) Brever of Moundsview, MN, Marilyn (Richard) Klug of Alexandria, MN and CaroLynn Hendicks and David Hendricks of Lakeville, MN; as well as 9 grandchildren and 2+ great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were Ken's granddaughters Jenny Lorenz, Stephanie Brever, and Jodi Johnson; and great grandchildren Nicholas John Nelson and Grace Katherine Lorenz. Pallbearers were grandsons Jason Nelson, Justin Nelson, Nathan Brever Jesse Klug, Tyler Hendricks and Blake Hendricks. Interment was in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery at Eagle Bend.
