Lois Korfe

Funeral services for Lois Ann Korfe of rural Clarissa, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Assemblies of God Church in Eagle Bend with Pastors Bob Bernard and Bob Kaumans presiding. Friends may call at the Schuller Family Funeral Homes’ Domian-Anderson Chapel in Bertha on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM and at the church on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. Lois passed away peacefully at the age of 83 years on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa, surrounded by her loving family. Lois was born on December 15, 1930 at Maple Island, Freeborn County, MN to Henry and Bessie (Perrine) Volsen. She worked as a nurse at the hospital in Wadena before she was united in marriage with Clarence Korfe on January 22, 1949 in Ellendale, MN. From that point on she dedicated herself to her home and her family. Lois and Clarence purchased their farm at rural Clarissa in 1952. They moved to take care of her father’s farm in southern Minnesota in 1957 and returned to their northern Minnesota home in 1967. Due to health concerns, she has spent the last six years in nursing homes in Staples, Wadena and Clarissa. In her early life, Lois was active in the Women’s Mission Circle and continued to be active in the Assemblies of God Church in Eagle Bend. She enjoyed working in her garden, growing flowers, baking, canning, and loved a cold can of Pepsi. She had many opportunities to travel. She was able to visit Canada, Mexico, Amsterdam and Holland, Jordan, Israel, and Greece. She and Clarence were also able to enjoy 17 winters in Arizona after retirement. Lois was deeply loved by her family and will forever be remembered as their “Prayer Warrior”. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; brother Don Volsen; infant grandson Dustin Korfe; and sister-in-law Vernell Volsen. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Clarence; sons Dan (Donna) of Bertha, Jerry (Linda) of Clarissa and Greg (Sue) of Long Prairie; 15 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; twin-brother Lester Volsen of Wells, MN; sister Doris (Bob) Breid of New Richland, MN; and sister-in-law Pierina Volsen. Honorary pallbearers are all of Lois’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are her grandsons Chris Korfe, Duane Korfe, Jeremiah J. Korfe, Nathan Korfe, Barry Larson and Jason Berg. Interment will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Verndale, MN.
