Mardell Hackler

The funeral service celebrating the life of Mardell Hackler of Wadena and Verndale, will be held at 11:00 am. on Monday, July 8, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena with Pastor Stephen Meltzer presiding. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and will resume at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Mardell was born to Bert and Sylvia (Reinking) Weinand on December 12, 1935, in Corcoran, MN. She was baptized January 12, 1936, and confirmed on April 2, 1950, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale, MN. She graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1954. Soon after, she married George Hackler on September 25, 1954, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale. They raised five children, Arlene, Loran, Larry, Lyle and their niece Pam. George and Mardell farmed on his family farm in Rogers until 1962 when they purchased their own farm in the Day/Braham area. They moved to Verndale in 1972, farming there until retirement. An avid Minnesota Twins baseball fan, Mardell also enjoyed playing cards, sewing, fishing, dancing and traveling with family and friends, especially the 25 winters spent in Arizona. She always had a big garden and did a lot of canning. She embroidered a set of seven dish towels for all her grandchildren and loved to bake them chocolate chip cookies and her “grandma buns.” Mardell served as a Sunday school, vacation bible school and release time teacher, and belonged to LWML, ladies aid, a homemakers club and a birthday club and NFO. In November 2019, George and Mardell moved to the Meadows of Wadena where she loved playing bingo, dominoes, and putting puzzles together - but no more than 300 pieces!. Preceding Mardell in death were her husband, George (2020); parents, Bert and Sylvia; siblings, Lowell Weinand and Merney Ankrom; and in-laws, Henry and Edna (Killmer) Hackler Dearly loved, Mardell will be remembered by her children: Arlene (Jerry) Rogge of Rogers, Loran (Deb) Hackler, Larry (Jodi) Hackler both of Wadena, Lyle (Lisa) Hackler of Chippewa Falls, WI; niece, Pam (Jeff) Boldt of Shakopee; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with siblings LaDess Turner and LaDonna Bennett.
