Marilyn Peltoniemi

Marilyn Lois (Baglien) Peltoniemi, age 86, of Minneapolis, formerly of Wadena, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015, after a brief hospitalization at Hennepin County Medical Center, surrounded by her children. She was born April 25, 1928, in Pelican Rapids, MN, to Syverin and Sophie (Erickson) Baglien. She grew up there, attending school and graduating in 1946. She attended Moorhead State Teachers College, where she met Carl W. S. Peltoniemi, Sr., of New York Mills. They married on June 19, 1948, and then moved to Saint Paul for three and a half years while Carl attended Saint Paul College of Law. Two sons, Eric and Carl, Jr., were born to them while they lived there. After graduation they moved to Duluth for two years, and then to Wadena in 1953, where Carl established his practice. In Wadena, Marilyn gave birth to a daughter, Joan. Wadena was Marilyn and Carl’s home for over 60 years. Carl passed away on March 1, 2013, in Wadena. They had 63 and one half years together. Marilyn moved to Minneapolis in November, 2013, to be near her children. A strong woman who survived 50 years of multiple sclerosis, Marilyn had a joyful spirit that overcame several other illnesses. She was imbued with faith, friendliness and a kindly manner that radiated outward to family, friends and strangers, alike. Marilyn was an avid reader, gardener, proud Norwegian and Swede, genealogist of the Baglien family, bridge player and a Twins’ fan from the first at-bat. Though deeply missed, we know she is now with her husband, Carl, Sr., cheering for Harmon and Kirby in spring training. Her favorite cheer was “Hit one for the old lady!” Marilyn is survived by her children, Eric (Rosa), Carl “Kip” (Mary) and Joan Tait (Bob), five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sister Mildred, father Syverin, mother Sophie (Erickson), brother Loren and husband Carl. Visitation on Friday, March 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schuller Family Funeral Home’s Johnson-Schuller Chapel, 205 4th St SW, Wadena, MN. Service on March 7 at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 403 2nd St SE, Wadena MN. Memorials preferred to the non-profit Augustana Care Center, 1007 14 St. S., Minneapolis, MN, 55404.
