Melvin Lorenz

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Melvin Lorenz will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the Faith United Church of Christ in Bertha, MN. Friends may call at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service. On February 5, 2015, Melvin left his earthly home at the age of 96 years, 2 months, and 29 days. Melvin Harland Lorenz, son of John and Amanda (Klatt) Lorenz was born on November 7, 1918 in Bertha township. He was baptized December 8, 1919, in the St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church by pastor G.S. Mundinger. His baptism certificate is written in German. In April 1942 he was inducted into the US Army stationed at Camp Forrest Tennessee as a surgical tech. On October 23,1942 he was united in marriage with Loma Cameron in the State of Georgia. They had 3 children. In 1943 they purchased a 365 acre dairy farm 3 miles east of Bertha. This was their home for 29 years until they moved into Bertha in 1972. Melvin became a partner in DLD Feeds. After the sale of that business he worked for Roger Aspergren's Surge dealership, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. Following Loma's death he married Florence Gilb. His heart was in farming, his livestock, and the land. He was a dearly loved husband, father and grandfather, setting the example of a strong work ethic. If there are fields to be worked, cows to be milked, or snow to be blown in heaven Dad will be there getting the job done. Proceeded in death by his wife Loma Cameron Lorenz in 1973; his parents; sisters Evelyn Nielsen, Lorraine LaPadula, Deloris Schaefer, Elvera Peterson, Bernice Lorenz, & Loretta Nelson; and brothers Veral Lorenz & Darrel Lorenz. Melvin is survived by his wife Florence; his children Eugene Lorenz of Bertha, Linda (Craig) Buchholz of Brainerd, Jane (Charles) Mathewson of Glen Ellen, CA; grandchildren Lori (Tim) Simmons Fort Collins CO, John Lorenz Vukelich Minneapolis, and Brent Lorenz Fargo, ND; great-grandchildren Michael Vukelich, Katherine Lorenz, Isabelle Lorenz, & Luke Lorenz; sister Arvilla Dyer; brothers Junior Lorenz, Gary (JoAnn) Lorenz, Ralph (Maxine) Lorenz; in-laws Harold Peterson, Leilo Lorenz; along with Florence's children Harvey Gilb, LaVonne Lange & Kenneth Gilb. Interment will be at later date in the Peace Evangelical Reform Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial preferred to the church or cemetery association.
