Pearl Hoemberg

The Mass of Christian Burial for Pearl Hoemberg, age 95, a resident of Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, MN, and formerly of Staples, will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples, MN, with Father Joe Korf as celebrant. Visitation will be held on Friday at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 and prayers at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. One day after celebrating her 95th birthday, on November 6, 2016, Pearl passed away at the Fair Oaks Lodge, Wadena, MN. Pearl was born to Roy and Clara (Olson) Stave on November 5, 1921, in Moran Township, Todd County, MN. She attended country school through the eighth grade. Pearl was united in marriage with Matthew Francis Hoemberg on February 20, 1941 at the Rectory of Sacred Heart Church in Staples. They made their home on a farm west of there where her hours were filled with caring for her large family. Pearl quilted, gardened, and canned, and was especially fond of cooking and baking for her family and friends. She collected cups and saucers and dolls. Pearl was an avid Bingo player and loved to play cards! She was a member of Catholic Foresters and the mission circle at church. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Matthew on August 16, 2003; parents Roy and Clara; sons Lawrence “Larry” and infant John Leo Hoemberg; and infant twin daughters Janice and Janet; brothers Russell, Gerald and Royce; sisters Opal Mertens, Ruby May and Carol Canfield; sons-in-law Herb Hopp and John Putz; and daughters-in-law Charlette and Sharron Hoemberg. Pearl is survived by her children Karen Hopp of Staples, Darlene (David) Krear of Hudson, WI, Connie Putz of Verndale, James (Roberta) Hoemberg of Staples, Dennis (Rita) Hoemberg of Robinsdale, Thomas (Roxann Kowalski) Hoemberg of Staples, Marilyn (Randy) Bell of San Tan Valley, AZ, Mark (Sara) Hoemberg of Staples, Cindy (Rich) Foisy of Chino Hills, CA, Karla Hoemberg of New Hope, and Kevin (Denise Roberts) Hoemberg of Brooklyn Park; 28 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren; brothers Kessell (Barbara) Stave of Deer Creek, Ronald (Sharon) Stave of Baldwin, WI and Darrell (Connie) Stave of Spencer, IA; sisters Delona Hoemberg of Bertha and Shirley (Martin) Duis of Spencer, IA; and a host of friends. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Pearl’s grandchildren great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be John Hopp, Mike Hopp, Matt Hopp, Todd Hoemberg, Matt Hoemberg and Josh Hoemberg. Burial will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples, MN. The family suggests memorials go to the Sacred Heart Parochial School, Staples, MN, in lieu of flowers.
