The Mass of Christian Burial for Phil Thoennes of Wadena will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena with Father Jean-Claude as celebrant. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at St. Ann’s Parish Hall in Wadena with Prayers at 6:00 and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Phillip James Thoennes was born to Peter and Rose (Daas) Thoennes on September 20, 1946, in Alexandria, MN. He grew up in Millerville, the oldest of 12 children. After completing high school he served in the US Army during the Vietnam War from January 1966 until his honorable discharge in December 1967 as a Specialist Fourth Class. He spent most of his working career with the Dairy Division of Land o Lakes in both Alexandria and Perham. He later worked at Homecrest, KSKK radio, and Team Industries in Park Rapids. On December 12, 1987, Phil married Barbara (Phaneuf) Suchoski at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena, where they also made their home. In younger years, Phil liked to deer hunt and was especially reminiscent about trips “out west”. He enjoyed boating, dinner and outings with his family and going for a leisurely drive or long road trips. Phil was a dedicated member of the Knights of Colombus including Fourth Degree Knights, the Wadena VFW and the American Legion in Millerville. He was especially dedicated to his mission of bringing communion to the homebound. Preceding Phil in death were his parents and siblings, Vera Thoennes, and Donald and his wife, Cindy Thoennes. Phil is survived by his loving wife, Barb; Barb’s children, Carla (Jathan) Good of Fair Oaks, CA, Krista O’Brien of Plymouth, and Peter (Megan) Suchoski of Shoreview; seven grandchildren; siblings: Judy (John) Johnson, Ralph Thoennes both of Alexandria, Mary (Ken) Reuter of Sauk Centre, Michael Thoennes of Osakis, David (Laurie) Thoennes of Garfield, Darrel (Alice) Thoennes of Alexandria, Mark Thoennes of Millerville, Peter Thoennes, and Evelyn Thoennes both of Alexandria; along with a host of extended family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Peter Thoennes, Cavan O'Brien Dustin Thoennes, Jay Johnson, Rick Reuter, and Brad Thoennes. Military honors will be provided by MNAGHG, Elmer Goche Post 3922,Veterans of Foreign Wars ~ Wadena, MN and American Legion Post 527 ~ Millerville, MN
