Ramona "Mona" Truax

The funeral service for Ramona "Mona" Truax, age 82 of Bertha, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena with Pastor Nate Loer presiding. Friends may call at Schuller Family Funeral Home's Domian-Anderson Chapel in Bertha on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM and at the church in Wadena on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. Mona passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at her home in Bertha with her family at her side and under the gentle care of Lakewood Hospice and Home Care of Staples. Ramona Eloise Heuer was born on September 9, 1933 to William and Selma (Rosenberg) Heuer at Bertha, MN. She graduated from Bertha High School in 1951 and continued her education at St. Cloud Teachers College, graduating in 1953. She taught elementary education for 5 years, beginning with a year at Park Rapids then at Eagle Bend. Mona was united in marriage with Warren Gene “Pete” Truax on August 2, 1952 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bertha. In 1958, she left teaching and dedicated herself to working with Pete on their farm and raising their daughters. She also worked for a time at Tri Rentals in AZ and Ben Franklin in Wadena. She was a committed and dependable person wherever she worked. After retiring from farming, Mona and Pete moved to Apache Junction, AZ in 1981, returning to Bertha each summer for a couple of months. They moved back to Minnesota full time in May of 2002 after purchasing the Huelsnitz home in Bertha. Mona was an active member of her church, serving as choir director and volunteer at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bertha and later at Mountain View Lutheran Church in Apache Junction. She enjoyed spending time in her greenhouse and flower gardens and was a member of the Garden Club in Bertha. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, and knitting. Labeled “Lucky Eddie” by Pete, she played cards, particularly Hand-and-Foot, canasta, and bridge, as well as dominoes, and was usually score keeper. She was also progressively modern, playing online games like Words-With-Friends and others with family and friends. Above all, she loved her family and spending time with them fishing and playing games at their annual family gatherings at area resorts. Mona was preceded in death by her parents William and Selma. She is survived by her loving husband, Pete; daughters Connie (Steve) Schwantz of Fergus Falls, Karen (Eric) Amundson of Carlos, Susan Kephart of Brainerd, and Cindy (Mike) Muzetras of Hopkins; grandchildren Krista (Brent) Gundberg, Heidi (Joel) Peterson, Craig (Jennifer) Schwantz, Leah (Chad) Smith, Evan (Melissa) Amundson, John (Julia) Amundson, Lindsay (Jayme) George, Kevin (Anne) Kephart, Ryan (Heather) Kephart, Kayla Kephart, Zoe Muzetras, and Alec Muzetras; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings Don (Lela) Heuer of Brooklyn Center, Jerry (Jeanette) Heuer of Moorhead, Maxine (Lawrence) Truax of Bloomington, Jim (Betty) Heuer of Osakis, Wally (Kathy) Heuer of Milwaukee WI, Chuck Heuer of Minneapolis, and Carolyn (Jim) Tonneson of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Craig Schwantz, Evan Amundson, Kevin Kephart, Ryan Kephart, John Amundson and Alec Muzetras. Interment will be in the Zion Cemetery, Bertha, at a later date. The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society and Lakewood Hospice in Staples.
