The funeral service for Alvin “Al” Finn of Wadena will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 29, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Stephen Meltzer presiding. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena, and will resume at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. With family at his side, Alvin age 88, passed away on December 22, 2021, at his home in Wadena, MN, with the compassionate care of Knute Nelson Hospice. Alvin “Al” was born to Nathan and Selma (Lehmkuhl) Finn on January 23, 1933 at their home in Hewitt, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena. Alvin was united in marriage with Barbara May Pearson on August 17, 1956 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hewitt. Three children were blessed to this union and they celebrated 65 years together. Al was involved in his community and served on many boards including at his church, Bertha-Hewitt School Advisory Board, DHIA (12 yrs), Land ‘O Lakes Director (15 yrs), ASC Director (9 yrs) Oak Valley Township (42 yrs) and was a Hewitt Lion member (43 yrs) having served in several officer positions. Alvin and Barbara were dairy and crop farmers most of their lives. By 2009, they sold their farm and moved to Wadena. During retirement, Al spent many hours making furniture and small items for family and friends. Preceding Al in death were his parents, Nathan and Selma; and a special sister, Darlene Rogers. Treasured memories will remain with his loving wife, Barbara; children Rick (Susie) of Woodville, WI, Lonnie of Clara City, and Tracy (Dan) Hanes of Foley; grandchildren, Alexandra (Jay) Johnson, Bradi (Paula) Hanes, Andreana Finn, Carter Hanes, Tirzah Finn, and Naisha Finn; along with close friend Lilya Ontiveros. Honorary pallbearers will be Al’s grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Michael Finn, James Seaver, Matthew Lipinski, Hector Jacinto, Tim Noteboom and Cole Wiire. Burial will be in Oak Valley Cemetery, Hewitt, MN.
