The memorial service celebrating the life of Bruce Westergren of Eagle Bend will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, at the Assembly of God Church in Eagle Bend. Bruce Allan Westegren was born to Elmer and Edith (Captain) Westergren on November 15, 1943, in Bertha, MN. He was a graduate of Bertha-Hewitt High School, Class of 1961, where he participated in FFA, Band and the Camera Club. He graduated as a mechanic from the Automotive Department at the Wadena Area Technical Institute in 1963. Bruce was united in marriage with Elizabeth “Liz” Schneider on August 29, 1964, at Round Prairie, MN. They made their home and raised their two children in Eagle Bend. Bruce worked as a mechanic and used his free time to enjoy the outdoors while hunting, fishing and raising pheasants, quail and chuker partridge. For 45 years he harvested maple syrup when the season was right. Dedicated to his community, Bruce was a volunteer with the Eagle Bend Fire Department. Preceding Bruce in death were his parents, Elmer and Edith; siblings: Alvin and Wayne Westergren; and in-laws, Richard and Gertrude Schneider. Bruce will be missed by his loving wife, Liz of Eagle Bend; children: Allan (Sandie) Westergren of St. Cloud and Jack (Roxane) Westergren of Alexandria; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; along with a host of friends. Honorary urn bearers will be Bruce’s grandchildren, Alyssa Toratti, Sydney Westergren, Travis Pearson, Eric Pearson and Chris Pearson. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Bertha, MN.
