The funeral service for Charles “Chuck” Perkins, of Deer Creek will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Don Wagner presiding. Visitation will be held on Friday at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and will resume at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Charles, age 84, passed away on June 16, 2018, at the Our Home Your Home Assisted Living in Henning, MN. Charles “Chuck” Arnold Perkins, son of Ralph and Arline (Kurz) Perkins, was born on October 25, 1933, in Deer Creek Township, MN. He was baptized in the Salem Methodist Church. He attended grade school and high school in Deer Creek, graduating with the Class of 1951. He worked in Minneapolis for a year before returning to Deer Creek to pursue the vocation of his first joy - farming. He was united in marriage to Irmgard “Irm” Meyer at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henning, MN, on November 17, 1956. They were the parents of four children. Chuck's hobbies included horses, playing cards, fishing, church league dart ball and most of all, anything about farming. Chuck lived his faith as an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and through serving the community. He held leadership roles in many community and agricultural organizations including Lions, the Deer Creek Creamery Board, AMPI, the American Dairy Association, and the Central MN Draft Horse Association. He represented the Deer Creek Lions in many area parades with his wagon and team of horses. He was also on the board of directors of Security State Bank of Deer Creek. Surviving Chuck are his wife of 61 years, Irm; four children: Ruth (Terry) Schmeckpeper of Greenville, WI; Wayne (Lisa) Perkins of Deer Creek, Dale (Ann) Perkins of Rutland, MA, and Jean (George) Conkle of Deer Creek. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters-and-brothers-in-law Lorene Rector of Austin, Alfred and Mary Jane Meyer of Henning, Del and Jan Meyer of New York Mills and Roy Olson of Parkers Prairie. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and their husbands Miriam & Vernon Schlichting, Dorothy & Bill Babb, a brother-in-law Warren Rector, a sister-in-law Rosie Meyer Olson and a daughter-in-law, Lori Voge Perkins. We, the family, have been blessed to have his wisdom, his gentleness, and his love in our lives. He was a man of integrity and faith. He taught us well. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Spenst, Melvin Schultz, Bob Ball and Mel Kunsteleben. Active pallbearers will be Leann Becker, Katie Behnke, Becki Koepsell, Kevin Meyer, Aaron Meyer, Glen Olson, Amanda Perkins, Stephanie Yungbauer.
