The funeral service for George Hackler of Verndale, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Wadena, with Pastor Stephen Meltzer presiding. Visitation with family and friends will be held at the church on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and will resume on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. * For Mardell's safety, the family requests that masks be worn at the visitation and service. George, age 85, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, July 24, 2020, at the Meadows in Wadena, MN, under the gentle care of Knute Nelson Hospice. George was born to Henry and Edna (Killmer) Hackler on February 22, 1935, in Maple Grove, MN, where he attended St. John’s Lutheran School through the eighth grade. George was united in marriage with Mardell May Weinand on September 25, 1954 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Robbinsdale, They raised five children, Arlene, Loran, Larry, Lyle and a niece, Pam. George was a life-long farmer who also worked part-time hauling milk cans to the Twin Cities and at Day Co-Op Creamery. He served on the Braham School Board, many church offices, the Northern Cooperative Board, ASCS Board, and was a lifetime member of the NFO. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, dancing and traveling, especially the 25 winters spent in Arizona! George was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ralph, Lloyd and Verle. George’s life will be fondly remembered by his wife Mardell of Wadena; children Arlene (Jerry) Rogge, Loran (Deb), Larry (Jodi), Lyle (Lisa) and Pam (Jeff) Boldt; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Mildred Hackler, Merney Ankrom, LaDess Turner, and LaDonna Bennett. Pallbearers will be George’s grandsons, Daniel Rogge, Jeff Ross, Aaron Felt, Ben Hess, Josh Kern, Tim Kern, Matt Denny, Travis Schenk and Luke Anderson. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery, Verndale, MN.
