Mervin Johnson

July 28, 1926 - January 28, 2021

The memorial service celebrating the life of Mervin Johnson of Eagle Bend will be held privately for the family at 2:00 PM on Wednesday. Friends are invited to attend virtually using the link at the end of this obituary. Mervin died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 28, 2021 while heading out to go to his grandson's new home. He led a full and active life of 94 years and will be greatly loved and missed by his family.   Mervin was born to Edgar and Mabel (Swenson) Johnson on July 28, 1926, in Milford, IA. Mervin served in the US Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was united in marriage with Cleone (Sinotte) Weishair on December 30, 1968. Over the years, Mervin handled the chores of farming, and also labored as a carpenter and retired as  a custodian at the school in Eagle Bend. He found it refreshing to be outdoors while hunting and fishing, even at the age of 89, shooting 2 deer with 1 shot on a evening hunt with his grandson, along with the many deer hunting trips to the north woods with his group. Mervin enjoyed countless camping trips to area resorts and campgrounds with Cleone and the boys, Canadian fishing trips, and open water and ice fishing adventures on area lakes. He loved a good fish fry, and could be a bit competitive with a game of cards with friends. Most of all he loved being with family especially his grandchildren and watching his great-grandchildren from the deck in the summer. They brought great joy into his life, and left him chuckling and smiling. Mervin never missed an event his family was involved in.  He was also a member of the VFW.   Preceding Mervin in death were his parents Edgar and Mabel; brother Don Johnson; and granddaughter Jessica Weishair   He is survived by his wife Cleone; children Steven (Barb) Weishair of Eagle Bend, Kurt (Connie) Weishair of Staples and Kim (Stacy) Weishair of Pelican Rapids;  eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; along with siblings Darlene (Louie) Dent and Sally Johnson.   Honorary urnbearers will be his grandchildren, Robin, Mandy, Katie, Brooke, Melanie, Chelsea, Jordon and Jake. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Schuller Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Services invites you to a scheduled Zoom event.
