The Mass of Christian Burial for Arnold “Arnie” Kneisl, of Wadena and formerly of Verndale, will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena with Father Aaron Kuhn as celebrant. Visitation will be held at St. Ann’s Parish Hall in Wadena on Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. with Prayers at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Arnold “Arnie” LuVerne Kneisl was born to August and Gertrude (Schlegel) Kneisl on September 9, 1934, at their home in Compton Township, Otter Tail County, MN. At the age of four, his family moved to a farm near Verndale, where he attended country school through the eighth grade. He later spent his freshman year in Wadena and graduated from Verndale High School. On October 26, 1955, Arnold married Darlene Shannon Simmons at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. They made their home down the road from his parents where nearly 45 years of his life of farming began. Arnie was dedicated to caring for his dairy cattle and cropland and his days were filled with the many farming tasks at hand. Over the years, additional land was purchased and they called it “Scattered Acres”! Eventually, horsepower was replaced with tractors and the next generations showed interest. By 1996, Arnold decided to sell to his son and begin with his next adventures in life. Little did Darlene know that you can’t take the farming away completely, as Arnold continued to spend several hours, if not days, doing what he loved, tilling the ground, and driving tractor until dusk. Other outdoor activities Arnold enjoyed were fishing, hunting, and the years of camping they had done in the Perham area. He was a skilled woodworker and avid card-player. He was a member of the National Guard and shared a comradery for 36 years with fellow members of the Hewitt Lions Club, serving in several capacities, sharing responsibilities, and serving the community. He proudly received the Lion’s Helen Keller Sight Award, honoring those who have distinguished themselves on behalf of sight. Arnie and Darlene spent 10 winters going to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, where he served on the community council. For over 60 years he was a member of St. Frederick’s Catholic Church in Verndale. His greatest joy was time spent with his wife and family, especially the grandkids and great-grandkids! Preceding Arnie in death were his parents, August and Gertrude; brother, Duane; half-brother, Donald Bush; and great-granddaughter Ella Jo Krumwiede. Remembering Arnie will be his loving wife of 69 years, Darlene; children: Gary (Kathy) Kneisl of Verndale, Mary Dee (Tom) Weber of Wadena, Karen (Terry) Marthaler of Perham, Kenneth (Lori) Kneisl of Wadena, Kevin (Melissa) Kneisl of Inver Grove Heights; 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; brother Jerome (Lois) Kneisl of Staples; along with extended family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Hewitt Lions Members. Active pallbearers will be Mike Weber, Andy Marthaler, Jason Kneisl, Danny Kneisl, Tyler Marthaler, Christian Kneisl and Logan Kneisl.
