The Mass of Christian Burial for Gerald “Jerry” Baron of Wadena will be celebrated at 11:00a.m. on Thursday October 17, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the Johnson-Schuller Chapel in Wadena, from 5:00 until 8:00p.m with prayers at 6:00 and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Jerry was born to Lawrence and Ruth (Theisen) Baron on July 8, 1944, in Bemidji, MN. He attended Wadena Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1962. After high school Jerry enlisted in the US Navy in which he served 4 years as a 3rd Class Ship's Serviceman. On May 4, 1968, Jerry married Irene Nelson at St. Anns in Wadena. Over the years, Jerry worked in the food industry eventually in his own grocery store, Jerry’s Supermarket in Bertha. Jerry was active in the Bertha community and at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lions, Commercial Club, Bertha Fire and Ambulance Crew, the VFW, American Legion and was a volunteer with Tri-County Hospital. Preceding Jerry in death were his parents, Lawrence and Ruth; brothers-in-law, Carl Nelson, Melvin Nelson Jr; sister-in-law Doris Anderson; and mother and father in-law, Melvin and Lela Nelson. Surviving Jerry are his devoted wife of 56 years Irene; children, Steve (Sue) Baron of West Fargo, ND, Pamela (Reggie) Habberstad of Alexandria and Greg Baron of Wadena; eight grandchildren; siblings: Duane (Marianne) of Eagan, Jim (Lorie) of Wadena, Michael (Dina) of Blaine, and Cindy (Jerry) Sundby of Watertown; along with extended family and numerous friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Eva Baron, and Alexis and Paige Habberstad. Pallbearers will be Grant and Garrett Baron, Karsten Habberstad, Rick Mekelson, Erik Baron, and Bobby Nelson. Military honors will be provided by the Elmer Goche Post 3922, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wadena, MN and William Larson Post 366, Bertha, MN.
