Jay Perius

The Mass of Christian Burial for Jay Perius of Verndale will be celebrated at 11:00a.m. on Friday, April 19, at St. Frederick’s Catholic Church in Verndale with Father Aaron Kuhn as celebrant. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30a.m. until the time of the Mass. Jay Patrick Perius was born to Frank and Edna (Stamm) Perius on September 9, 1951, at Langdon, ND. He attended school in Milwaukee, WI. The family moved to Minnesota where Jay graduated with the Verndale High School Class of 1970. On November 10, 1973, Jay married Jacqueline Marie Blom in Sebeka, MN. As a farmer, many hours were spent outdoors, in addition to when he was fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and riding motorcycle! Other interests included bowling, enduro racing, tractor pulls, and coffee with the guys. He was a jokester and avid prankster always stirring up fun. Jay worked as a security guard at the Air Force base in Grand Forks, ND. He was a volunteer with the Verndale Fire Department and as an Aldrich Township Supervisor. Jay was a member of the Mid MN Beef Growers Association. He grew the best carrots and peppers, too! Something he enjoyed with his four partners. Most of all, time with his wife, family and dog, Case, was what mattered. Preceding Jay in death were his parents, Frank and Edna; and beloved son, Jamie Perius. Surviving Jay are his devoted wife of 50 years, Jackie; children: Stephanie (Terry) Selander of Wadena, Jennifer (Jamie) Carlson of Foley, Jayson (Jessica) Perius of Wadena, and Jacob (Katie) Perius of Verndale; grandchildren: Kirstin (Bryce) Looker, Ethan Korfe, Owen Korfe, Jordan (Jamie) Selander, Ashley (Jordan) Selander, Lily Carlson, Alexis Carlson, and Jaylynn Perius; siblings, Kevin (Vonnie) and Terry (Jean) both of Verndale; and a host of extended family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay’s grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be John Rousslang, Dan Fisher, Greg Moenkedick, Wayne Stave, John Desrocher, and Jerry Line.
