Lyle Hanes

The memorial service celebrating the life of Lyle Hanes of Hewitt will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at our Domian-Anderson Chapel in Bertha. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of his service. Lyle passed away unexpectedly from natural causes on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Astera Health System of Wadena, MN. Lyle Wayne Hanes was born to Wayne and Lila (Sinkler) Hanes on March 17, 1950, in Huron, SD. His family moved several times and eventually settled in Minnesota where Lyle graduated from Bertha-Hewitt High School in 1969. He entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971, and continued his service with the MN National Guard until his honorable discharge in April of 1978. On June 9, 1978, Lyle and Robin Lee were married at the Roberts County Courthouse in Sisseton, SD. He continued his education at Staples Central Lakes College to become a CNC machinist. Robin helped Lyle run a sawmill and a small dairy farm. He also worked at the Hydraulic Doctor repair service in Bertha. He was adept at working with machinery and building metal items such as plant stands, hangers, sleighs, and creating gadgets with his son. Away from home, Lyle enjoyed Enduro cars, monster truck events, car shows or going to Rolag Days. He loved “critters” especially his cats. Sunday afternoons were reserved for a drive, and a Dairy Queen treat afterwards. Most of all, he loved any time spent with his son and daughters. Preceding Lyle in death were his parents, Wayne and Lila; infant son, Justin; sisters, Cheryl Mann and Laurie Beedle; and mother-in-law, Jesse Naomi Lee. Remembering Lyle will be his wife, Robin of Hewitt; children, Ethan (Jennifer) Hanes of Bertha, Reba Hanes of Hewitt, Honey Rose Hanes of Bertha and bonus daughter, Hillary Ivy of Hewitt; two grandchildren; siblings: Karol Krueger of Clear Lake, David (Jeannie) Hanes of Wadena, Karen Hanes of St. Paul, Daniel (Tracy) Hanes of Foley, Marcie Gamber of Rochester, Nancy Hanes of Canby, OR, Paulette Hanes of Lino Lakes and Everett Hanes of Sartell, along with extended family and friends. Honorary urn bearers will be Ethan Hanes, Robert Bertram, Danny Hanes, David Hanes, Everett Hanes, Wayne Uberto, Scott Sibert and Andrew Freyholtz.
