Millicent Godding

The funeral service for Millicent Godding a resident of the Centra Care Health System in Long Prairie, and formerly of Clarissa will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, at the Assembly of God Church in Eagle Bend with Reverend Brad Godding officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and will resume on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Millicent, age 84, passed away with her family at her side, in the early hours of December 27, 2017, at the Centra Care nursing home in Long Prairie, MN. Millicent was born to Ray G. and Mildred Eleanora (Herling) Heckmaster on July 2, 1933, in Minneapolis, MN. After completing high school she was united in marriage with Dwight Dean Godding on June 15, 1952, at the Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Bloomington. She devoted her days to the care of her family. At age 52, she continued her education at the Alexandria Technical College. Millicent worked as the City Clerk in Clarissa until retiring on December 31, 1998. Over the years, her spare time was filled with sewing her children’s outfits, gardening, canning, and painting ceramics. Millicent’s love of reading books was handed down to her children. She belonged to the PTA and shared her faith with the Women’s Mission Group, taught Sunday School, led Bible Studies, and was a church soloist. Millicent was preceded in death by her husband Dwight; parents Ray and Mildred; sister Mavis Clark ; and granddaughter Jackie Oftedahl. Surviving Millicent are her children: Brenda (Glenn) Kuperus of Waite Park, Linda (Bruce) Oftedahl of Long Prairie, Edith (Eddie) Bray of Foley, Cindy (Steve) Bray of CA, Dean Godding of Two Harbors, Brad (Melanie) Godding of Columbia, SC, Jesse (Gina) Godding of Waxahachie, TX, and Peggy (Vern) Engstrom of Kensington, 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brothers Ray, J.D. and Scott Heckmaster; along with sisters Donna Pahl and Glenda Ezell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Missy Mixner, Henry Kuperus, Andy Kuperus, Marilyn Palma, Jeff Bray, Amanda Bray, Brian Godding, Vanessa Thorne, Timothy Godding, Seth Godding and Brody Engstrom. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Kuperus, Dean Bray, Eric Bray, Dwight Godding, Sean Godding, Jennifer Rohloff, Brad Godding, and Samantha Engstrom. Burial will be in the Woodman Cemetery, Clarissa, MN.
