Sarah Yetter

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Sarah Gail Yetter’s death from lung diseases on the morning of November 28th, 2015. She died at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN, surrounded by family. The memorial service for Sarah will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wadena, with Cindy Lemke and Jim Stoneman officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service. Sarah was born to Dr. Howard and Georgia (Pease) Satterlee on October 29, 1935 in Lewiston, MN, where she lived until she graduated from Lewiston High School in 1953. She spent two years at Cottey College and then attended the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. There she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta and graduated in 1957. Sarah met her husband-to-be, Frank Yetter, on a blind date on New Year’s Eve 1956 in Wadena. They married 10 months later and settled down in Wadena where Frank co-owned Moore & Yetter Drug. In the mid-70’s Sarah, with her good friend Benda Davis, established the Wadena Recycling Program. Sarah earned a Master’s of Psychology and Counseling degree from Goddard College in 1983 and founded the Neighborhood Counseling Center with Jim Kraemer. After 20 years Sarah sold her share of the business and found joy in various roles in the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Wadena. She served as a relief lay minister for the U.C.C. churches in New York Mills and Staples after receiving certification from United Theological Seminary. Sarah was active in the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Wadena Library Board, various bridge clubs and Madhatter’s Community Theater. She relished traveling with her beloved husband to Europe and Maui. They welcomed family and friends to their summer home on Lake Blanche. She thoroughly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. Every day she looked forward to doing both the Star Tribune and New York Times crossword puzzles, in ink. Preceded in death by her parents, brother Charles Satterlee, sister Mary Kolner, and her husband of 55 years, Frank. Survived by daughter Jane Yetter, son Steve (Annie) Yetter and grandchildren Kathryn and George. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 110 Colfax Avenue SW, Wadena, MN 56482, and to the Wadena County Humane Society, 310 Ash Avenue NW, Wadena, MN 56482.
